Adobe Releases a Lot

From Keith Peters

In the last week: Digital Editions, Flex Builder 2 for Mac, Soundbooth, Flex Scheduling Framework, Flash Lite 2.1 Authoring Update.

That’s quite a week for any company. And so much more in the works…

Player 9 Updates (including Linux)

Adobe has released a beta of Player 9 for Linux. Info here.

I don’t use Linux – but, I think it’s important for adoption – especially w/ the free Flex compiler.

Performance-wise, it appears the Linux version is 20% faster than Win, except for font rendering – which is quite slow.

There are also updates to player for Mac and Windows as well. So, current official release is 9,0,16,0 – and new beta is 9,0,21,75.

I have no idea what has changed in the latest players (but I installed Mozilla and it seems to work fine) and haven’t done any benchmarking.

New Yorker Article

Interesting article on using artificial neural networks (and some visualization – although no pictures) to predict the monetary success of songs and movies.

Data Widgets

Sometimes I need to url-encode some text for a static xml file. And sometimes I need to know the millisecond value of a date (converting millisecond values to dates is the fastest way to create date objects from XML in Flash. Get millisecond values in Flash by using millisecondValue=new Date().getTime()). And sometimes I make widgets to do this for me and then forget about them.
